It’s an absolute honour to step into the role of President, and I’m looking forward to doing my very best for our community. I grew up in Murrumbateman and now am raising my own kids here, so I’m committed to giving back and helping our town thrive into the future.
I'm also incredibly grateful to be surrounded by such a wonderful executive team this year - Rowan Geddes, Jenny Weekes, Annaliese Caston, Judy Breen, Judy Brace, Steve Crabb, Iain McCall and Bob Evans. I feel very supported in the role and know that we will be able to deliver much for the community, with your support.
We started the year strong taking out two awards at the Yass Valley Business Chamber Awards - Outstanding Community Organisation and Outstanding Visitor Experience for the Murrumbateman Field Days. These awards are for everyone who volunteers for MCA throughout the year - thank you.
The Field Days are already attracting strong exhibitor interest. Please mark the dates in your diary – Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th October. This is an event run by the community, for the community, and the MCA executive is committed to keeping it that way.
The MCA History Group ran a successful event ‘From Gold to Grapes’ on Saturday 3 May as part of the Canberra Heritage Festival. We explored the rich history of the Nanama/Nanima Valley, from its gold mining days to its farming roots. The MCA History Group is now looking for new members to help plan future events and help catalogue our historical records. If you're passionate about local history and would like to get involved, please get in touch.
The Murrumbateman Village Markets continue to thrive, even as the weather cools. We encourage everyone to bring friends and family along - fresh, local produce is especially valuable in winter, and it’s a great way to support local growers and makers. Remember to pop into the MCA stall for a chat with our friendly volunteers.
