About Us

Whistle & Page is my creative studio based in Murrumbateman, NSW. I’m Nawsheen - a ceramic artist and author crafting handmade pottery for everyday rituals and writing heartfelt books for growing minds. Just 25 minutes from Canberra and close to Yass, my practice centres on slow, intentional, and meaningful creation. Clay is my first language; story is my second. Every piece I shape - whether wheel‑thrown or handbuilt - is formed gently and deliberately, celebrating texture, movement, and the quiet charm of imperfection. My glazes mirror the rural landscape around me, echoing moss greens, storm‑washed blues, and earthy tones after rain. Alongside my studio work, I write and illustrate children’s books inspired by Australian seasons, gratitude, and belonging, creating stories that resonate with both kids and their grown‑ups.

At Whistle & Page, I offer hands-on pottery workshops, ongoing creative courses, mobile school programs, at-home clay kits, an online ceramics shop, and community gatherings designed for curious beginners, creative souls, and anyone seeking a mindful, screen-free pause. My studio is a warm, welcoming space where time slows down, inviting you to reconnect with your hands, explore tactile art, and enjoy the satisfaction of making something uniquely yours.

My home gallery is open by appointment, and welcome you in for a private viewing.

Online Shop & Handmade Ceramics Collection

Beyond studio classes, my online shop features curated collections of handmade ceramics, artisan goods, and creative items crafted for mindful living. Each piece is made with intention to bring warmth, texture, and character into your daily rituals.

  • Curated Ritual Collections - Handmade ranges designed for specific passions and daily moments, including matcha lovers, sake drinkers, deep thinkers, gardeners, cooks, hosts, and artists.
  • Handcrafted Drinkware & Tableware - One-of-a-kind mugs, cups, bowls, and functional ceramics finished in nature-inspired glazes.
  • Homeware, Jewellery & Seasonal Pieces - Unique ceramic homewares, tactile jewellery, and limited seasonal releases.
  • Pre-Orders & Gift Vouchers - Options to reserve upcoming small-batch pottery and digital vouchers perfect for gifting workshops or handmade pieces.

Local Pottery Experiences & Beginner Workshops

My beginner-friendly pottery workshops in Murrumbateman offer a calm, welcoming introduction to clay. These two-hour sessions encourage you to switch off your phone, pause your to-do list, and immerse yourself in the tactile joy of handbuilding.

Inside the studio, you’ll learn simple, satisfying techniques to create functional ceramic pieces - such as cups, bowls, or sculptural forms. No experience is needed, and perfection is never the goal. These workshops focus on enjoying the organic process and discovering your creative instincts.

After your session, your pieces remain in the studio for drying, glazing, and kiln firing. A few weeks later, your finished ceramics return to you, ready to become part of your daily rituals. Light refreshments are included, offering space to connect with fellow makers and enjoy a genuine creative break.

Weekday Pottery Workshops & Mindful Sessions

Held in my Murrumbateman studio, these weekday workshops welcome up to six participants for guided, beginner-friendly handbuilding. Over two uninterrupted hours, you’ll create functional pieces like mugs or bowls. Parents and carers may bring a child aged 7–12 at no extra cost, making it ideal for homeschooling or creative family time. Clay, tools, glazing, firing, and refreshments are all included.

5-Week Pottery Workshop Courses

For those wanting a deeper creative practice, I run five-week pottery courses called The Pottery Low-Down. These weekly two-hour sessions allow you to build skills gradually in a supportive environment.

  • Week 1: Foundations & Pinch Pots - Learn studio rhythms, clay prep, and pinch pot basics.
  • Week 2: Slab Building - Roll, shape, and join slabs to create structured pieces.
  • Week 3: Coiling Techniques - Build taller forms using traditional coil methods.
  • Week 4: Surface Decoration - Explore decorative techniques to personalise your pieces.
  • Week 5: Refining & Glazing - Smooth edges, refine forms, and choose glazes before firing.

Across five weeks, you’ll create a complete collection of functional, handmade ceramics - mugs, bowls, plates - all kiln-fired and ready for everyday use.

Wheel-Throwing Classes & Date Night Experiences

I offer private and small-group wheel-throwing sessions at my Murrumbateman studio, welcoming visitors from Canberra, Yass, and surrounding regions. To ensure personalised guidance, wheel classes are capped at two participants.

  • One-Off Wheel-Throwing Experience - A 2.5-hour introduction for couples, friends, or solo learners. Learn centring, pulling walls, and shaping forms. Selected pieces are glazed and fired for you.
  • 5-Week Wheel-Throwing Course - A structured program focused on developing technical skill, confidence, and precision on the wheel.

Perfect for unique date nights or dedicated skill-building, these sessions meet you exactly where you are.

The Maker’s Table: Private Group Pottery Experiences

The Maker’s Table is a private pottery experience for team building, corporate events, hens parties, birthdays, and celebrations across Murrumbateman, Canberra, and Yass. Designed for groups of 8–24, these two-hour sessions offer a calm, tactile environment either in the studio or at external venues. Each group co-designs their session, creating custom ceramic pieces regardless of experience. All works are glazed, fired, and returned as lasting keepsakes.

Clay Together: School Programs, Kids’ Parties & Creative Workshops

Clay Together is a mobile pottery program for schools, youth groups, and families across the region. It brings hands-on Creative Arts learning directly to students, supporting fine motor skills, sensory engagement, focus, and creative confidence.

  • School Creative Arts Programs (K–12) - Guided handbuilding workshops designed to boost creativity and confidence.
  • Kids’ Birthday Parties - A fun, hands-on alternative to traditional party entertainment. Children spend 1.5 hours creating ceramic keepsakes.

All materials, tools, glazing, and firing are included.

The Pocket Potter Kit

The Pocket Potter Kit is a screen-free clay experience designed for homes, families, and creative date nights. Each kit includes 1kg of clay, an 8–10 piece beginner tool set, a reusable fabric work surface, and step-by-step instruction cards. Optional QR codes link to video demonstrations.

  • Stoneware Clay Kit - Traditional stoneware clay that can be returned to Whistle & Page or fired at community kilns.
  • Magic Sun-Kissed Clay Kit - Natural air-dry clay ideal for decorative projects and quick creative sessions.
  • Single & Double Maker Kits - Choose a solo kit for quiet focus or a double kit for shared making.

The Paper Trail Club

The Paper Trail Club is a relaxed monthly gathering held on the first Friday of each month from 10 am to 12 pm. Meeting at venues across the Yass Valley and Murrumbateman, it welcomes women who love stationery, analogue hobbies, and creative projects.

Bring your current project - journals, sketchbooks, watercolours, collage, knitting - and enjoy coffee, conversation, and shared inspiration. There are no classes or expectations, just a supportive space to connect and create. After attending three sessions, members receive a handmade ceramic token as a keepsake.
